At Inverness Cathedral, baptisms take place during our Sunday services at 0830 or 1100. Baptism can be arranged at other times by prior arrangement with the clergy of the Cathedral.
When there is a baptism it is part of the whole service and not just an ‘add on’ at the end. The whole congregation who are gathered are there to welcome those who come to be baptised, and this can be both infant, child and adult, and to support them and their family and friends in making this commitment. There is no requirement to be a regular member of the cathedral congregation, although you would be most welcome if you felt this is something you would like to do!
For infant and children coming to be baptised it is usual for there to be Godparents, who along with the parents make the promises on their behalf. For a boy it is usually two God Fathers and one God Mother, and for a girl it is usually two God Mothers and one God Father.
